Clarifications for Friday

I’ve heard John Robinson over the last couple days pimping my appearance on his show Friday, which is good. Hopefully a lot of my readers will tune in and CALL IN!

But I just wanted to make a couple clarifications on some things he’s said. While I am an elected member of the Wicomico County Republican Central Committee, the views I have and will be sharing are definitely my own. Lord knows that my six cohorts don’t agree with me on everything.

One thing I’m sure we’ll be discussing is the Congressional race between Joe Arminio, Andy Harris and Wayne Gilchrest. Unlike the NRCC (or at least its chairman), our Central Committee cannot take a stand officially in the race. However, I can tell you that we have some Harris supporters and some Gilchrest supporters in our midst. I’m sure most readers know where I stand on the race, but I do try to give each candidate their say, even the Democrats. They can dig their own holes.

Further, my feeling of the state party as I understand it is that they’ll remain neutral in the race as well. If this remains so, they are certainly to be commended. I have to say that thus far I think we’ve chosen a good leader in Jim Pelura – in truth, he’s surprised me as a voting member who actually supported his opponent, John White, when we selected a state party chair last fall.

Anyway, some of the other topics I’d like to discuss are the events in Iraq and Afghanistan, the Congressional race I just covered, and maybe the Presidential one as well.

Speaking of my Presidential decision, at the moment the early leader (through part six) is Tom Tancredo. In visiting his blog a few days ago, he’s made the interesting move of soliciting questions from ordinary citizens, so I asked him two. (It’s 1/5 of Ten Questions I suppose.) He hasn’t gotten around to answering this round yet so I’ll be interested to see if he does answer mine – if so I’ll certainly share that.

And I’m sort of curious myself who my readers support for President on both the Democrat and Republican sides (or even if you’d consider a minor party candidate), so I’m going to try something and see how it goes. Consider this an open thread; but a) tell me why you support who you do, and b) try and keep it clean.

Having such good comments made in the past, I know my readers are up to those two tasks!

  1. Good Luck Mike!

Although I personally think you’re extremely knowledgeable when it comes to local politics, Robinson thinks he knows anything & everything and all we’re going to get from that show is HIS opinion, as always. That is, unless this comment finally reaches that pea brain of his and he shuts up for once and lets his Guest speak their mind. After all, it is OUR show, not his, right? He says that all the time anyway. “It’s about you, Ladies & Gentlemen.”

Just a slight bit of advise Mike. Don’t let him ask any questions about how many words are in your posts either. I look forward to listening to that show. John must know someone with some ADD medication he can take for just one day, doesn’t he? Take it on Friday morning John, that should slow you down a little bit and you know what, if you just listen for once you might just learn something, rather than preaching everything.

  2. Good Luck!

At the beginning I was loving Fred Thompson… but lately I feel kinda cheated. Mr. Thompson is taking too long to get into the race and he isn’t doing a very good job defending himself.

I was pumped up that Thompson spoke about the concept of Federalism. The more talk of Federalism the more excited I get!

Tancredo eh? I do like his stance on Illegal Immigration though he seems a little one issue guy right now to me (just means I have to research him more).

If a Democrat must be president I wouldn’t mind Hillary Clinton. The fact that she is a woman and a Clinton will mean that she will have to be 10X tougher on Radical Islam than anyone else… just to prove herself.

  3. i am a big huckabee supporter… i like his ‘tax me more fund’ and he is coming around to the fair tax… he’s willing to work and not reign…

he’s pro self-defense and strong on strong defence…

  4. I’m liking Fred at this point. I watched one of the Republican debates and I just couldn’t believe that no one was striking my interest. McCain – the amnesty thing put him out to pature for me. Romney seemed way to eager and interesed in getting our products out for sale over seas. It seemed to dominate his thoughts at one point. Guiliani seems a little too liberal for me with that socialized medicine tendency he has.

Fred Thompson has a shoot from the hip attitude. I saw him on Hannity and Colmes where they asked him questions while a debate was going on. He was matter of factly and didn’t hesitate to answer. He didn’t seem to take the time to decide what he was about to say seemed “politically correct” – he just answered. At no point did he dance around a question like the folks actually debating did. He seems tough on immigration and on defense. Perhaps some of the most important things to me are his positions on federalism, Property rights, and individual freedoms. Check out his website. His position on the passing of immigration laws by a Pennsylvania municipality is one which supports the rights of local government to make thier own laws. I do think he needs to throw his hat in the ring very soon so that everyone will come to know is position on more issues facing us today. I know he has a strategy but let’s get on with it. I just can’t bring myself to support anyone else at this point.

If the republicans don’t get thier poop in a group with this election, we will be taxed into massive recession. And look at these dems. What are they offerring? Clinton? Obama? They are bashing the snot out of each other – calling each other names – referring to each other as inexperienced and basically not worthy as leaders. Next thing you know one will pick the other as a running mate and will try to pass each other off to the citizens as the best thing since sliced bread.

  5. Ya know what? There’s something else I want to say. It’s been eating at me for a while. The fact of the matter is that I feel let down by the Republicans who are currently in office (as a whole). And I feel that the Dems are disappointed by thier party too. My mother and sister are democrats (don’t hold that against me)and they tell me that more and more they are voting for the candidate with whom they feel takes a good position on issues important to them, regardless of party affiliation. Well guess what…I think I’d vote for Joe Lieberman before I’d vote for some of the tired asses who are running for president from my own party……at least he’s tough on terror. I voted for Bush twice and can’t express my disappointment with him on immigration issues. I also think we should worry less about trying our soldiers for murder and more about killing more of these militant SOB terrorists….hey….we’re at war. Sometimes innocent ppl get killed. We didn’t start this thing but we damned sure can finish it. So let’s get to it, George! Why are we pandering to liberals? Our President has failed us badly by failing to take control in Iraq and by failing to release information to the American people about the good things being accomplished in Iraq. He let the American people lose confidence in him as a president and it cost us in the last election in the number of Republican seats in congress lost to democrats. How in hell is anything supposed to get done now. Then he confirms the lack of confidence by failing to close the borders when 85% of the citizens want it closed – then tries to force amnesty down our throats. It makes you feel like we should take both major parties and disintegrate them and just vote for the candidate…..forget the party. So you see, I’m not at all happy in the direction I see our nation heading. We have strayed too far from the fundamentals the framers of our constitution put on paper as the very foundation of the United States of America. I feel that if we get back to the basics we can get back to being “United”. Fred Thompson is the only person who has made me feel that he has a plan to bring the country back together. I’ve heard no other plans with which I agree on more issues.
