Robinson on the radio

I thought it would be good to briefly touch on this and congratulate John on his first show.

I haven’t looked at any of the other blogs yet tonight for their reaction, but I listened to the new John Robinson radio show this afternoon. Quite honestly, it was obvious that this was his first effort so I’m going to defer judgment on whether he does a good job as a broadcaster or not for a week or so, I’ll let him get a few shows under his belt.

I think he was easy on the mayor but in some respects that’s not so bad. At least now the mayor can’t say she didn’t have an opportunity to speak out on the issues.

But John did well enough that I’ll listen tomorrow to what he and Rick Pollitt have to say and that’s the overall goal of his program. Not everyone agrees with how I do monoblogue either but I have a style and a way I feel comfortable doing it and I’m not looking to change either one anytime soon.

And it’s good that WICO is making these changes although I actually found out I was incorrect on one thing. They’re not dropping Laura Ingraham entirely, just shunting her off to a 9-10 p.m. time slot. Personally I think they could have dropped Michael Savage to put her full show in but that’s just my two cents.

  1. During the past few days Barrie Tilghman has been the guest on two radio interview shows, the other one being on WSDL, with Don Rush and Katherine Crowell on Friday (March 9) for an hour. Compared to them, Mr. Robinson was mediocre, despite his silly mannerism and style. But it is incredible (and was patently obvious) that none of them has the moxie to ask tough questions, especially as follow-up to her scripted spiel. For example, although I missed the first 20 minutes of the Robinson show (when it might have happened), the word “audit” was not mentioned once, nor was there any discussion of the condemnation order for the old “Salisbury Mall” that was issued in July 2005 and remains unenforced despite the subsequent order to demolish the building by a January 2007 deadline.

In both shows, Tilghman was allowed to use the free air time afforded her solely because of her elective office to trash several candidates in the upcoming city council election who have criticized her various failures and flawed policies. Given that she is supporting a separate ticket of candidates who support her, including Mr. Comegys, her abuse of her public position on these shows is deplorable.

And, it seems strange that neither Mr. Robinson nor the others asked Tilghman whether her support of Comegys has cooled in light of the recent contempt order against him in the Circuit Court for failure to pay child support. It seems that the media, which failed to cover that event when it occurred, now is actively engaging in a cover-up.

  2. First of all, thanks for tuning into the show. I am NO DJ and this is all very new to me. I will get much better – as time goes on. Give me a week or two. It is a lot to learn.

As for the Audit- I did ask. The show we be available to re-air on my blog soon. (I will gladly forward the show to anyone who missed it. I got permission to do so today.)

I am sick and tired of everyone giving me crap because I didn’t ask hard questions. I asked good questions. It is not my job to grill any guest. It’s yours. If you own a phone then take the time to call in and ask away… the studio line is 410-742-1320.

As for the Mayor supporting Gary Comegys, she has every right to. WOW, what a big surprise it must have been to hear her support Gary. All the candidates and council members have been invited to be on the AIR with me. Mrs. Smith can’t find the time for 38 minutes of FREE prime radio time to say why we should vote for her. Nor can Debbie find time to support her candidates. All other candidates and council members are scheduled on the show. SO DON’T EVER SAY OR IMPLY who I want to win.

  3. Actually, John, you’ve already predicted who you think will win. You said Monday you saw the race as Smith, Comegys, and a battle between Spies and Cohen for third.

I can’t speak for either Smith or Campbell, but in my opinion Debbie Campbell is probably laying low on this because she’s most likely not a supporter of Gary Comegys. I can now document that both Shanie Shields and Barrie Tilghman are for Gary, and I’ve got a sneaking hunch that both Dunn and Cathcart are in his corner too.

And to address “Skeptic Stride” John did ask about the audit in that first 20 minutes and seemed to be satisfied with Barrie’s explanation. So I’m not going to crucify him for not being hyperaggressive and demanding heads to roll – actually, Barrie fell on her sword regarding the manner and took the blame herself.

  4. Too much pampering going on here.

John, get a backbone for crying out loud! Screw the people who don’t believe you’re asking the tough enough questions.

You’ll get there soon enough or trust me, you won’t be on the air much longer.

Keep it up the way you’re going and your Show will be nothing less than “the other side of politics” and that’s all there is to it.

Oh, the BS about the Star Wars music, it’s time to grow up John.

  5. Golly, after lying about the audit being done – at a City Council meeting – Barrie no doubt believes that her “out” is to plead ignorance: “we were understaffed (but I didn’t know).” And, if she knew, why didn’t she take appropriate action as the City’s “chief executive officer.”

And, Mr. Robinson, how come no questions about failure to enforce the demolition order for the old mall – by the way, Richard Insley was back in town (from Florida-?) last week, so why can’t that hearing be held before the election.

And since Barrie is backing Comegys, why no question about his contempt of court for failure to pay his child support? Or his bankruptcy? Or the basis for his divorce? As I recall Barrie did not hesitate to make critical comment about members of Council who are not among her loyalists – just ask Bill Stacy, Rachel Polk, Frank Himelright, Palmer Gillis, etc.

FYI– I’m even more critical of Don Rush, who is not a rookie, but would cut Ms. Crowell some slack, just as I would you (and she has not been here long enough to know the real Barrie Tilghman like you have).
