Local ballot affected by unaffiliated changes

The ballot Wicomico County voters will face in November began its shrinking process late yesterday afternoon as a state-imposed deadline for nonaffiliated candidates came and passed without three would-be officeseekers filing the required paperwork.

The Maryland State Board of Elections has a two-stage process for being placed on the ballot as an unaffiliated candidate. Step one involves filing a “Declaration of Intent” which was due on July 6th.

A gamble fails to pay off

For the better part of a decade, the name Corrogan Vaughn has been on a primary ballot seeking the nomination for U.S. Senator from the Republican Party.

After failed efforts in 2006 (1.2% of the vote and a sixth place finish out of ten candidates), 2004 (3.7% of the vote but ninth of nine), and 2000 as a write-in, Vaughn was attracting a little bit of notice in a fairly open Republican field with no clear early favorite this year.
