I've presented news and views from Maryland's Eastern Shore since 2005, but my writing can be found at several conservative websites.

Frank Kratovil is better on the war –> He wants to end it.

Frank Kratovil is better on Social Security –> He wants to save it and not privatize unlike his opponent Harris.

Frank Kratovil is better on Immigration –> He has a long record as a State’s Attorney fighting illegal immigration on the front lines, which is why Harris never talks about it.

Frank Kratovil is better on the environment –> He believes in renewable energy and a modern solution to the energy crisis, while Harris has the 6th worse lifetime voting record on the environment out of 188 legislators in the Maryland Legislature.

Frank Kratovil is better on Health Care –> He wants to ensure it for everyone, Harris thinks the free market will take care of that which is what free market thinkers have said for 20 years, guess it doesn’t work.

Frank Kratovil is a better man. Andy Harris showed during the Primary that he would say or do anything to get elected and that included demeaning a sitting United States Congressman, the Honorable Wayne Gilchrest, and in doing so showed his true colors of extremism and irrational thinking.

[...] In Frank Kratovil We Trust Posted by Cato May 20, 2008 True to form, Michael Swartz (of MonoBlogue fame) offered us some excellent analysis of Congressional candidate Frank Kratovil and his campaign. Without disagreeing with Michael, I believe that questioning Kratovil’s sincerity on certain issues needs to be explored a bit deeper. [...]

ShoreThings, it's not the job of an elected official to parrot the opinions of his or her constituency. Officials are elected because the people trust their judgment on the issues - in this day and age there could easily be much more direct democracy if we wanted nothing but the complete expression of the people.

There's nothing wrong with bitter partisanship by elected officials, the only problem is when it becomes a matter of party over philosophy. If there's sharp differences over philosophy then there had best be some gridlock, rather than just passing things in the sake of cooperation and bipartisanship.

Are you suggesting that Kratovil was not being honest about his views by calling him a snake oil salesman? You've been looking for information that would allow us to form an opinion on the candidate, and even though the words came straight from the man's mouth, you still revert back to your assumptions. My objections to Andy Harris are based on his words and his actions. Your objections to Kratovil seem to be based on assumptions related to many people other than the candidate himself.

I continue to be amazed by the fact that you think a 1st District legislator should only represent your viewpoint. Voter registration in the 1st District is split almost evenly among those with a party affiliation along with a large block of unaffiliated voters. Why should a representative of a district that is half Democrats vote with the Republican party line 70 or 80 or 90% of the time. If the legislator is truly representing the district, the votes should be spread evenly across the spectrum. Your all or nothing partisan views are a contributor to the gridlock that has overtaken the legislative branch of our government.
