[...] One of the other contenders is making noise in the contest as well. According to the PolitickerMD website, First District aspirant Joe Arminio has declared himself as “officially join(ing) the Ron Paul ticket” as of December 1st. That’s not too surprising, considering that Arminio regularly bills himself as running against a number of “neocons” for the seat and also based on his comments at the Wicomico County Straw Poll back in September. (Arminio’s also the scheduled speaker at our January meeting.) Ron Paul has a small but extremely passionate following and that stance by Joe Arminio could deflect voters away from the three top contenders. [...]

[...] Last night I posted the results of the Straw Poll; tonight I go into what was said. Unfortunately I didnt get quite the participation or attendance I expected; then again, this was a first-time event and we have competition from hundreds of other organizations - not to mention were not located in Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada, or South Carolina source: WCRC meeting September 2007 (Straw Poll), monoblogue [...]

[...] I also get to a lot of local and state party events, and it gives me several opportunities to be a photojournalist. I like putting together pictures and text to tell a story. A good recent example was the GOP straw poll our county’s Republican club held. (And that event was my “baby” to boot, I came up with the idea to both promote the club and be a fundraiser. By the way, Fred Thompson won it handily and the club made some “free” money too.) I also give the same treatment to other local events that interest me. [...]

I appreciate the clarification, Joe. Haven't had the chance to read your book yet, otherwise I may have caught that myself.

Hello, Michael
Many thanks to you and your fellow Club members for putting on an enjoyable and informative meeting. I would like to make four points. First, I brought down neither staff nor supporters, and also did not pay for votes. Any support I garnered in the straw poll--excluding my own unpaid vote, of course--was evidently strictly local. Secondly, I gave "thumbs up" to respective points made by the proxies for Duncan Hunter and Ron Paul.

Thirdly, I stand for the gold standard in principle, but, at this time, the proper policy recommendation is, I believe, to approximate the gold standard. The dollar is overvalued several-fold relative to the government's supply of gold. I am not proposing to devalue the dollar to accomodate the restoration of the gold standard! I am proposing, as the next best thing to the gold standard, what is called inflation targeting, that is, to increase or decrease the money supply within a tight band relative to the free market value of gold.
(To increase the money supply is usually to permit more borrowing.) For a further discussion on approximating the gold standard please see pp. 123 and 124 of my new book The Decline and Fall Of The American Way.

Finally, I did refer in my remarks of September 24 to the fiscal discipline that the gold standard had imposed throughout much of our history. Regrettably the powers that be, including votes cast by Mr Gilchrest, have inflated the money supply--increased the debt--so much that the restoration of a strict gold standard is out of reach at this time.
Respectfully yours,
Dr Joe Arminio
