Can we stick to the issues, please?

Well, time will tell if yesterday’s post at Salisbury News will cost Joe Albero $100 or not. He’s offering this as a reward to any eagle-eye photographer who catches Debbie Comegys making an obscene gesture. (And he has such a nice picture of the particular gesture on his site.)

Now I’ll note that I’ve observed Mrs. Comegys’ behavior at a couple of the forums and yes, she comes across sort of rudely. I didn’t personally witness the pen incident at the SWAC forum but it sounds like something not outside her pattern of behavior.

But – why is she becoming an issue? Debbie Comegys isn’t running for City Council. She disrupted one forum. I understand that Joe Albero is a Tim Spies supporter and, to be charitable, isn’t among those who’d like to see Gary Comegys reelected to his post. I suppose Gary’s spousal choice could be construed as one of a number of character issues Gary Comegys seems to have (which have been covered by several local bloggers), but then I’m certainly no expert advisor at marriage here either.

I get along reasonably well with Joe; in fact, I was one of the well-wishers the other night at his birthday party. We also comment on each others’ websites, we’re linked to one another, and he’ll point to articles of mine he likes and I’ll do the same for his site. Both of us know that we each have different blogging styles and things that are important to me may not be so to him and vice versa. However, I have to say to Joe that this whole Debbie Comegys reward brouhaha just serves as too much of a sideshow and detracts from what needs to be a serious discussion regarding the direction the city of Salisbury should head toward in the next decade.

Now I know Joe’s a well-meaning kind of guy. He’s abrasive to some, but on the whole I have no issues with him personally. I’ve also seen the sort of good he’s done in uncovering a few of the issues that this campaign has revolved around. So why let a personal vendetta of sorts get in the way of that, and also make the blogs a distracting and polarizing issue themselves?

That’s just my two cents on this whole situation. It leaves me $99.98 short of Joe Albero’s offer but I think it’s more valuable to the citizens of Salisbury in the long run.

Even if Ms. Comegys has never engaged in the vulgarity that J-A attributes to her, the woman’s conduct at the forums has been obnoxious. That Mr. Comegys abides by her public performance is deplorable. When combined with his non-support (until held in contempt by the Wicomico County Circuit Court) and the grounds for his divorce, it’s obvious that he has character flaws of the Clintonian kind.

  2. Michael, Michael, Michael,

Gary Comegys needs to leave his wife at home with the DOGS!

Like it or not, the woman is flipping the BIRD to numerous people sporting the Spies, Cohen & Smith signs.

Like my post or not, I believe her tactics play a huge roll in local politics as she and Shanie refuse to act like adults and are setting the worst example for younger people, I’ve ever seen.

Let me add. IF the moderator and or the Host of that forum had seen what she had been doing, I was told by both of them that they would have thrown her OUT!

Your post is a waste of your talent Michael. This time I believe you’re wrong, respectfully.

  3. *sigh* Do I have to go over this again?

Here are the issues in my mind, pretty much in order.

    1. Bringing down the crime rate.
    2. Establishing a fee schedule fair to both developers and the city.
    3. The water situation, both freshwater and wastewater.
    4. Doing something with the old mall.
    5. Taking care of #1 through #4 in a fiscally prudent manner.

Instead, we’re having the discussion here about rude behavior by the wife of one City Councilman. True, this councilman has run afoul of the law in the recent past and it does put his character into play. In and of itself, telling Salisbury about Debbie Comegys’ behavior toward Tim Spies is newsworthy – I agree with you there. My beef comes from this “reward fund”, when $100 could be better spent in other areas.

I guess you and I, Joe, will have to agree to disagree on both the relevence of the Debbie Comegys issue and the argument that my post was a “waste of (my) talent.”

  4. Michael,

Not that I wish to argue with you about $100.00 but quite frankly my friend, $100.00 is pretty meaningless to me in the financial world. I have donated to the Candidates I am backing, to the maximum amount.

You should see the humor behind the offer as well. IF someone were to actually get a photo of Gary’s wife pulling this AFTER this offer has been made, well, that should tell you the level of class the two of them carry.

I would think by making such an offer, Gary would pull rank on his wife and demand she stop pulling this crap and act far more civil in the future. The offer actually helps their cause, unless they’re completely tasteless?

The issues are NOT for the running candidates, at the moment. We all know how they feel about the above issues. Now it’s a matter of time until the three are voted in and at that point and time you’ll see Tim Spies, Terry Cohen and Louise Smith come through with their campaign promises.

It’s up to the VOTERS to make the first step for positive change. The VOTERS will then have to realize things won’t happen overnight. Barry and the Dream Team have taken years to do all the damage they have created, especially financially.

We’ll be having this same discussion in two years when we’re throwing Barrie out of Office as well. With any luck, the three new Council Members will at least get some control over this spending freak and slow that process down with exception of Fire and Police.

The time is now for a change and it looks very good for Spies, Cohen & Smith, we all know that. However, IF Gary’s wife wants to make a fool out of herself, I’m willing to pony up a crisp $100.00 Bill for the capture of such.

In closing, at least I said it was a waste of your talent and not a waste of good sp@rm. ROTFLMAO!

  5. Mr. Monoblogue:

The only reason for this particular discussion of Ms. Comegys creaa behavior is because you raised the matter!

  6. Michael.
I do not believe your post was a waste of your talent. I agree with you that the “reward” is not about the council race, or politics. It is a personal issue from Joe to Gary. In a word, it is juvenile [act] for a blog that holds itself out as a legitimate news source.

Joe should do himself a favor and withdraw the offer, not remove it, but make a withdrawal, with an apology to his readers.
